Hi thanks for that and for taking the time to read my posts.
I do know of the Mennonite community, but being in Piribebuy which is a long way from where they are have never really met any.
It is indeed a joy to travel by bus around Asuncion. Still very easy to do, although you will find the roads much more crowded.
Getting to those places and anywhere within about 3 hours of Asuncion it is just a case of finding the right bus and jumping on. The bus terminal itself has had some work done on it so even the long distance buses can be booked at pretty short notice.
Hope that answers things and let me know anything else I can give a little guidance with.
Simon

Hello Simon, I have enjoyed reading your posts. I live in the US and was a volunteer in Paraguay 30 years ago. I met a close friend from Germany during that year when she was a volunteer at the same place. We have stayed in touch and are planning on meeting in Paraguay in October.

We worked at a shelter for street children, El Albergue, operated by the organization comité central menonita. Have you heard of it?

Your description of the city, buses and travel brings back so many memories. We plan to spend several days in Asunción and also visit the Chaco. We may visit some nearby cities too.

Is it still fairly easy to ask around town to figure out which buses to take within Asunción and also to nearby cities?

Is it a good idea to book bus trips ahead of time from Asunción to places like San Bernardino or Caacupe Aregua etc… or can those easily be purchased the same day of travel?

Thank you in advance if you have time to answer some of my questions. 😊
