A number of business that closed in the old town have remained that way, although a number did take the opportunity to relocate to more modern premises.

Those were the little boats you saw. They travel out of the bay and then a short distance upstream along the Rio Paraguay before landing at Chaco’i. The landing spot is just a dusty transport link with a carpark and a couple of basic stores. Not wishing to get stranded there (I didn’t know what the turn around time between boats was) I did not wander of go exploring .

By: Michael Frost https://simonsparaguay.com/travelling-by-boat-across-asuncion-bay/#comment-1845 Tue, 20 Jun 2023 21:12:10 +0000 https://simonsparaguay.com/?p=1362#comment-1845 Fascinating, though during my 7 days in Asuncion spent at the Hotel Palmaroga (April-May 2022) looking W-WNW-NW-N, I could see the small boats going across the Bay to the land to the north with its point (near where the Mbigua Sports Club is supposed to be, though I don’t think I saw it), but didn’t see any traffic going from the Bay to the other side of the Paraguay River. If I had, I would’ve tried to take it across.

Margaret Hebblethwaite mentions Chaco’i across the river with the Manguruyu restaurant. With COVID happening during my trip, wonder if things were shut down? The big Pirate Bar down the street from the hotel had closed, for example.

Yes do, it’s a commuter service really, but well worth doing for a chance to get out on the river and to see Asuncion from the water
