Though I forget to mention walking around Loma San Jeronimo on a hot day, walking past it to see the fishermen along the Paraguay River. Then went back in the early evening to the Mirador Bar there, since sadly closed in Dec 2022. Met the two owners and had a fascinating time talking to them about running a small business in Paraguay. Sat in the chair Megan Fox sat on a couple weeks before that when she was in town with Machine Gun Kelly. The colors of Loma San Jeronimo and the odd “streets”. A relic to Doctor Francia’s time, as the hills precluded him from destroying and rebuilding directly in that area.

I also a walk around the old town. Have done it many times and will happily be doing it many more. An easy and pleasant city to walk around with plenty to look at and enjoy. And with Asuncion for so long being a compact place along the shore of the bay many of it’s historic places and buildings are within a short walk of each other.
With the broken pavements and other obstacles that are to be found everywhere in Paraguay looking where I place my feet has become second nature. The ones I take a careful step round are the iron grates above drains that run well below street level. They are all quite solid, but if one were to give way…

Which I did on 5 different days in April & May 2022. Whether at 0530 or 0900 or 1100 or 1300 or 1400. Bought some books at El Lector at the Plaza Uruguaya. Did the train station. Went into the Cathedral on a Sunday morning. The Independence House. The Museum of the City. The Umbrella Street segment on Palma. Pantheon of Heroes on the May Day holiday! Walked by the Palace of Lopez so many times. And the Congress Building. Near the shantytown. The haunting small park for the Disappeared and Repressed to the west of the Palace. With the concrete and iron restraining Stroessner from coming back up. So much to see and do. Loved the Plaza Italia at 0515. The lights. As the city woke up. One drunk sleeping things off. Everyone always friendly regardless of the time. Just had to learn to be careful while walking, to study what was up ahead due to broken pavement, garbage, tripping hazards and more. Even met the cats being fed or living off the streets. I LOVE Asuncion. And the Hotel Palmaroga.
